We hold our ground!

Many of our guests have thought of us in recent weeks and asked us how we are experiencing the coronavirus crisis on the ground in Egypt. We would like to take this opportunity to give you an update on the situation. We do not want to whine or gloss over the situation, but simply inform you objectively about the current situation in our diving centers.

SUBEX has already experienced and survived a number of crises in the Red Sea over the last few decades, from the Gulf War to crises following attacks and two revolutions. This time, however, the crisis is global and Egypt is not the only country affected. The experience in practical crisis management is definitely having a positive effect on the mood among SUBEX employees.  Composure and patience are certainly good virtues for getting through a difficult time.

The SUBEX dive centers in Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh and El Quseir have been temporarily closed since March 20, and the hotels are also closed and empty. Nevertheless, the offices are staffed and we are available for you. We are all safe and sound, no SUBEX employee has fallen ill with Covid19.

All employees received their salaries for March and April. After all possible clean-up and repair work (bottle sterilization, etc.) was completed at the end of March/beginning of April, most Egyptian employees were sent on paid leave. For many, this is the first Ramadan in a long time that they have been able to spend at home with their families, as this time of year used to be peak season.

Some European employees are also at home with their families, as there are currently no flight connections and strict quarantine requirements. Everyone is trying to make the best of the unplanned situation.

For us, it was a matter of course to refund all guests' prepaid services in full quickly and without complications.

There is also some work that is only caused by the unwanted standstill. Our two diving boats in Hurghada, for example, have built up algae on the hull due to a lack of movement over the last 8 weeks. It is remarkable how quickly the sea tries to remove foreign bodies from the water! Cleaning the boats is one of the many tasks we are currently doing to maintain the infrastructure for our guests. Because we are looking positively to the future! The anticipation of our guests' return is growing day by day! We are holding the fort for you and are continuing to use the time for various tasks so that we can provide the usual SUBEX service again as soon as the first diving guests return.
